>The role of corporate security at ministries in the Republic of Slovenia

Karmen Černigoj, Miha DVojmoč

Purpose:

The aim of this paper is to present a thorough analysis of the concept of corporate security, its definition and role, and to examine the legal framework and processes that ensure security in ministries in the Republic of Slovenia.

Design/Methods/Approach:

Based on an analysis of written sources, we have prepared a comprehensive review of the relevant literature and legal acts key to the topic at hand. The research work is based on a quantitative approach, carried out through an online survey of ministry staff.

Findings:

A significant correlation was found between participation in security training programmes and the implementation of corporate security legal processes. However, no correlation was found between the perceived sufficiency of security measures to protect against co-occurring threats and the type of job held by employees in each ministry, nor was there a correlation between the speed and effectiveness of response to security incidents and the tenure of employees. The results reveal a lack of attention to ensuring the security of know-how and the protection of intellectual property, and point to the need for further improvements in the area of integrity and governance in the administration.

Research Limitations / Implications:

A limitation of the survey is the question of the sincerity of the respondents’ answers. In addition, during the course of the survey, it became apparent that there was no common understanding of the concept and components of corporate security among ministry staff, which may affect the reliability and interpretation of the data collected. The survey can be used as a tool to improve the security culture and integrate corporate security in ministries.

Practical Implications:

The paper provides an in-depth overview of the comprehensive legal framework for corporate security in ministries and presents findings and results that serve as a basis for future research.

Originality/Value:

Addressing corporate security in ministries is aimed at corporate security professionals and civil servants working to ensure the comprehensive and effective security of the public sector. This paper aims to encourage researchers to further address this topic.
